We use Waterborne paint here at Jost Garage for many reasons. We believe it’s not only a high-quality car paint but that it fits into our Eco-Friendly Initiative. In addition to being generally less expensive than solvent-based paints, Waterborne has many other advantages. Here are the benefits of using Waterborne paint for car repair.
Better for the Environment
Waterborne paints emit 96% fewer VOCs (volatile organic compounds) compared to solvent-based paints. This is better for the environment, as well as the people using it. The air quality is not compromised, meaning less toxic and possibly carcinogenic particles are released into the air.
Most solvent borne car paints are incredibly flammable, so they come with a list of hazards and precautions. Waterborne paint has no flammability hazard, making it much safer for you, and for the people painting your car.
Less Clearcoat Needed
Waterborne paints go on with a thinner application than other paints, meaning it takes less clearcoat to even out the surface when applying multiple layers. This means less product used and less product waste.
Waterborne paint’s color develops as it dries which is why a wet coat tends to have a lighter hue than the finished product. However, a car painted with Waterborne has a brighter color overall than with a solvent based paint.
Waterborne paints are extremely heat resistant. This means less worry about bubbling and fading due to extreme temperatures. They also are resistant to abrasion. It takes a lot to scratch a car covered in Waterborne.
Waterborne paints are better for you, better for our staff, and better for your car. So if you need a repair and a paint touchup, you can have peace of mind knowing that in our shop, we use Waterborne paint. Stop in or give us a call with any questions.
