Technology is an amazing thing. Our lives are enhanced by technology in ways that were hard even to imagine a few decades ago. Technology has made our cars more like a traveling refuge away from the world, complete with our favorite music and a friendly voice to tell us how to get to our next location. Everyone’s favorite superstore and information hub, Amazon now is making our cars even more amazing. Let’s take a look at how cars are equipped with Amazon capabilities.
Amazon now has a version of Echo specifically made to be used in your car. Mounted to your dash, this sleek little device allows you to connect to Alexa through your phone as it uses your car speakers for audio. You’re able to use Alexa just as you do at home, playing music, listening to podcasts or news channels, as well as keep lists and set reminders. You can even access your favorite GPS app just by asking Alexa. Currently, Echo Auto is available invitation only but will be available to everyone shortly.
In addition to Echo Auto, technology is being developed to have Alexa programmed into some car models. The built-in technology would allow you to control almost everything on your car in a conversational method you’re used to with Alexa. But instead of just taking orders using certain commands, as Alexa does at home, the car version would act more as a copilot, sensing when you are off course or making grocery list suggestions when you pass stores. You’ll be able to interact with Alexa more as if she’s a passenger in your vehicle rather than a robotic voice responding to key phrases. Currently, this amazing technology is only available in luxury car brands but hopefully will become more easily accessible in the coming years.
Alexa, put a BMW on my shopping list.
